Zaaffran – Food bloggers dinner

A girl I used to work with would rave on about Zaaffran’s curries which I’m still yet to try. A couple of food bloggers (xoxoxxoxox) were invited to try Zaaffran’s new Indian BBQ menu ($55pp for 5 courses) which features a unique banquet for meat lovers of all kinds.

India is such a big country with various regions, cultures, beliefs, taste and dialects that people tend to ignore that the north and south of india are both very different in terms of their cuisine. Everyone considers Indian food to only be about curries and ignore other specialties they have like BBQ / grilled meat. Zaaffran’s BBQ banquet, creates an indian experience that will open your eyes to a different kind of indian cuisine.

The night started with tasty fancy canapes which can be found on simon’s food blog. After the canapes it was time for the banquet to begin with delicious potato-corn patties, garlic naan bread, salad and pappadoms.

Gol guppas
Amazing feather weight shells. So delicate it crumbles in your mouth. The way to eat this is by scooping the chickpea filling into the crispy shells then pouring the mint sauce

Selection of dips
The great thing about having various dips meant you could flavour your naan or poppadoms. The dips were very flavoursome. My ultimate favourite was the chili and tomato (because I love chili) and the mint and chili reminded me of a Mediterranean banquet.

Baked Salmon
Salmon was soft and tender and melted in your mouth. The presentation was stunning. The crispy potato gave a lot of texture and a nice crunchy!

Tandoori Plate
The prawns were delicious and extremely fresh. I loved the chicken seekh kebab which is flavoured with various herbs and spices.

Seasonal fried fish
Lightly battered crispy barramundi. Crunchy on the outside soft and flavoursome in the center.

Soft and tender lamb ribs with Lamb Seekh kebab

Dessert – Spire of saffron, Cardamom and roasted almonds kulfi, Dome of gulab jamun, Rose kulfi, Brandy glaze and a pyramid of kuih lapis.
The kulfi is my favourite. Than again its always a favourite of mine at any Indian restaurant. Dessert is definitely must for an Indian experience. Definitely the way to end a feast.
