Via del corso,Top fruit & Sky Phoenix (westfield tasting event)

With every savoury dish..
there is a spot for sweets and desserts!

With every savoury dish there has to be a spot for sweets and desserts. Via Del Corso name derives from a famous strip in Rome. Having said this, via del corso’s variety of ice-cream is sourced from various ice-cream supplies for the mean time as they are in the process of opening their own ice-cream / manufacturing production line in near future.

Gionino allows ups to take as many spoons as we like as we prepare to dip our way into the wonderful world of ice-cream tasting. He explains his refrigerating system is imported from Italy and is built by Ferrari hence why it opens up like a Lamborghini.

If your not keen on ice-cream, embrace yourself because there are other Italian desserts you could buy like, cannoli, macarons, italian chocolates and italian cakes and pastries.

Top Fruit / Top Juice

Once again this isn’t your ordinary fruit shop. Its a fruit store which sells exotic fruits some which is very hard to find. Top fruit also makes exotic fruit salads with dragon fruit and sells a variety of yoghurt and nuts, crackers and of course chocolate dipped strawberries!

Hussein takes us through the journey of showing and test tasting the two different types of dragon fruit. Dragon fruit is highly popular in asian countries. In fact when traveling through vietnam, it was in season and that was the only fruit I ate. For those who have never seen a dragon fruit tree, its a big thorny cactus like plant which looks quite scary from a distance.

I’ve never seen a yellow dragon fruit before and it is much sweeter in flesh in comparison to the red version. The red isnt as sweet but sweet in a different kind of way. He also takes us through the “chocolate fruit” which originates from mexico. The flesh looks like dark chocolate *YUM* though actually tastes like a custard apple.. although not quite exactly.

Sky phoenix

We meet with the lovely owner Anita who explains to us how they were busy on one of their opening night with a wedding organised in the new venue. Our final put stop is to have a banquet dinner but because we were all so full from the previous taste tests, we decided to cut the menu back with only a few things. We order the delicious peaking duck pancake, sang choy bow and two stir-fries with veggies.

  2. We tried the fruit salad with yoghurt and it was delicious.
Flavours in the gelato were lovely, but the prices were over the top…. and the brioche was stale (sob). Bit disappointing, but I am sure we will be back to try more….. the desserts really did look delicious!
You are so lucky to get a chance to try all that yummy food!
