If you live in sydney and you haven’t been or heard of ramen kan then I think you are insane! I’ve known of this place for years now and I always seem to keep going back when i want authentic cheap japanese food whether its Hay Market branch or the Bondi Junction store.

I usually get a craving for egg and when I do I know i have to go to ramen kan to order my favourite dish “Oyako don” (steamed chicken, egg, soy on rice with miso soup and shredded cabbage salad).

Friday went to bondi junction and I was amazed that they had changed the menu (not sure of the Hay Market menu has changed). I was shocked to see my favourite dish disappear and subsituted with eel =( The weather was hot and I was in no mood for soup so these are the dishes we tried.

Q: do i like the new menu?
A: yes there seems to be more variety even though my favourite dish has disappeared =(

Shredded Cabbage Salad
I’m not too sure what dressing they use but I can’t get enough of this salad. If I knew how to make it or what it was called, I would make this myself and eat it every day! I love how simple it is yet light and delicious

Salmon Don (Grilled Salmon, Rice, Japanese Mayonnaise, Chilli)
Bruce seems to always order this. He loves it soo much that this is his favorite. Unfortunately i’m not a fan of salmon so I can’t exactly tell you my oppinion

Terriyaki Chicken with Fried Egg Noodles
Disappointed with this dish, I had an image in my head that the noodles would absorb the sauce / flavours as egg noodles should. The noodles didnt absorb anything so most the time it felt like i was eating crispy thin cardboard =(. The terriyaki chicken was standard and there wasn’t enough greens (1 bean sliced into 4 pieces). Unfortunately there was nothing too flashy about this dish =(

Prawn Goyza
Can’t go wrong with goyza’s! Its always nice when its not oily or doughy!

REDUNDANT: Oyako Don
This is my favourite dish which they’ve discontinued! It’s steamed chicken with egg on rice and soy. I loved this dish (I know it look slike shit) but it taste SOO GOD DAMN GOOD! I was shocked to read that the new menu didnt include Okyako don =(
