Becassé is one of my favourite restaurants of all time.  Its a fairly quiet restaurant where you would mainly go here for a special occasion.  We didn’t get the degustation instead we got the A La Carte. Its fairly upper-class so remember your manners and take into consideration of the time as this isn’t a restaurant where you eat and leave. Meals take time to prepare hence the standard of this restaurant so patience is a must.

Meals are fairly expensive and you pay for what you get (Mains range from $42-$52).  You may think the meals are very small but the flavours are absolutely fantastic! and worth it! Can’t remember the exact bill for 2 ppl. All up it cost us about $250-$300.

AMBIANCE
It’s a small welcoming restaurant which has a simplistic elegant mood. If going to impress a client, surprise a very special someone then this place could do the trick. Lights are dimmed for the intimacy feel and atmosphere can be quiet (i assume depending on particular time / day).

SERVICE
As soon as entering the restaurant the door is opened and you are directly escorted to your table. Waitresses / Waiters are speak in food language so it may be hard to understand if you don’t know a thing or two. Fantastic service overall.

FOOD

Complementary Puff pastry tart with tapenade, marinated tomato and biodynamic Kervella goats’cheese.
Absolutely delicious.. like fireworks exploding in your mouth

An assortment of breads – dark sourdough, rosemary, herb & garlic with dutch butter and black sea salt
Breads are served hot (Straight out of the oven) Butter was soooooo delicious I didn’t feel guilty about smearing it on my bread.

Entreés
Crispy pork belly, grilled scampi and crispy bacon jus
Personally I struggle to eat the pork  belly as I thought the belly would be crispy part. Overall very interesting flavours.

Confit yellow fin tuna and king prawn with green apple and lemongrass sorbet, soy and sesame
If you enjoy sashimi then you will enjoy this dish. The flavours that combine the green apple and lemongrass sorbet and the fresh fin tuna and prawn is a beautiful combination which leaves a refreshing feel.

Complementary Sauteé Carrot
It’s a shame that I focused this photo incorrectly. I’ve never had carrot made into the consistency of pumpkin soup. It was SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOODDDD!

Main’s

Crab tortellini, prawn, king scallop, and asparagas
I absolutely enjoyed my main! It presented in a big bowl and the meal was microscopically tiny Considering this cost approx $48 it was soooooo worth it! I’ll forever remember the taste of this dish.

Milk fed veal baked in coffee and clay with cepe potato puree and caramelised endive
It thought this was the most bizarre dish! The veal is present in block of clay. (The waiter / waitress cuts this open for you). Once cut open, a coffee colored cloth is reveled which serves the purpose of absorbing the flavour into the veal. It’s the most expensive main on the menu which is highly recommended!

Complementary – vanilla bean pancotta with honey dew, cantaloupe, pomegranate and passion fruit
What’s not to love? anything with visible vanilla-bean is the bomb!

Desert

Banana crème brulée with salted peanut brittle and milk coffee sorbet|
The most unusual crème bruleé I have ever seen! Presentation was intelligent and the flavour of the banana is prominent. Peanut Brittle caramel is insanely unique!

Valrhona chocolate and caramel ‘cadeau’ with milk sorbet
Speechless! Best of both worlds – hazelnut, mousse, caramel what could go wrong?

Complementary – (not sure of the name so correct me if i am wrong) Berry Friand, chocolate Macaroons and Pear Delight
