Steakhouse Bar & Grill – The Westin Hotel, Denarau Fiji
Second night after being away from home and away from the western world, we were all craving for the basic steak, lamb etc. To our surprise the Westin Hotel down the road from our resort happened to have a steakhouse restaurant.
On arrival we were escorted to our table which was under a Bure (Fiji style hut) which was amazingly beautiful. Service was fantastic and if you haven’t been to Fiji before, the staff and locals are very friendly and polite. They always address you with “Bula” (hello in Fijian) and “Vinaka” (Thank-you) and madam, gentlemen which at first took me a while to get used to.
When I looked at the menu, I admit i was hesitant in regards to eating meat as meat is very expensive in Fiji. I imagined how hard it would be to important steak / decent meat.. so I went with the local produce of fish while the others dined steakhouse style hehe.

FOOD
Disappointed to be honest. I’m not going to sit here and say everything was beautiful. When we put our heads together, out of the 4 of us, only one of us enjoyed their main thoroughly. =(
Garlic Cheese Bread
Bread is rapped in a neat cloth to keep the heat in

Garlic Twist is very soft.. almost like eating a crossiant!

Sweet Chilli Philadelphia creme cheese condiment!

Local Walu fish with balsamic vinegar, olives, basil, lemon and mash potatoes
Disappointed with my main as the fish was over cooked! It was super dry and there weren’t any flavours in the fish other than balsamic vinegar. The mash potato could be a bit more smoother and moist. Mash was almost going dry!

Baby Pork Ribs
Not sure what the marinade was supposed to be but it was fairly tomato-ish with a hint of BBQ sauce

Lamb Shanks
Apparently the lamb shanks were beautiful and they look good too!

200gram steak with chips

Passion fruit, and mango pavlova
With these fruits in season, how could u say no to fruity pavlova made fresh?

Rocky Road Parfait
This desert was delicious! Embedded was layers of rocky road, with marshmallows!

Pity the food wasn’t that great. But you can’t really complain because it’s beautiful Fiji!

Can i say whe i was in Fiji i was really disappointed by the food there and i was even suprised to see a Chicken Express in Nadi!! i really craved asian food when i got back and from friends, the asian food here is really bad!! i was stuck with hotel food basically, but at least i had HAngi/or whatever they call it in Fiji, and even that was average to me (where they cook the food under the ground)

Fijian chinese, are there many chinese there? i didnt see many, in lakota (i think thats where it is, my memory for places is really poor) i did see 2!!
Nadi, man its crazy there, there is a indian place with japanese signs and they lured my friends relatives there and the food was quite expensive and wasnt good, actually a lot of the eateries were more expensive than i thought they would be!! Being a tourist, you get bothered so much walking down that street!! Really my eating out in fiji was quite limited
you have to say that food here is a lot better than fiji right?
I never went to Suva, anything there since its the captial in terms of good food?
hows the politcal situation in fiji now?

I’m from suva (though ive never been back since i was born) I assume suva is the place where all the halfies are at. Sad I know i dont even know my own country =| Food in suva apparently is better.. my uncle tells me theres heaps of chinese ppl there that speak mandarin..and restaurants are pretty good. I’m still yet to discover this next time i go back..and see it for myself.
My mum is polonesian her side of the family is from Latoka.. I didnt get the chance to go there nxt time i’ll catch the local bus and experience it. I didnt see any chinese in nadi.. as far as i was concerned i was the only asian girl walking down the street that they kept asking me if i was japanese trying to push me into their dusty dirty store.
Eating in fiji sux.. i mean Denarau is built as a haven to escape the real world. Explains why eating in Denarau is limited…cos everything outside Denarau is pretty uch a hole which is sad =(.. Pretty much why tourists like ourselves go there to relax. Its a safe paradise..
