Sparkle Cupcakery, Surry Hills
Cupcake tasting with a bunch of 9 food loving crazy girls.. is the way to go! After this being the first stop of the day, I was excited to finally trying the cupcakes which has had many mixed reviews about the dryness of its stumps.
Located in the trendy Surry Hills, its a cupcake store that has marketed cupcakes without using its typical ‘cupcake cuteness’, but a style the public is not used to seeing – “a minimalistic flat-top with the classic branding colours of black, white, silver and colourful dots to identify elegance.”

Sparkle Cupcakery, identifies each cupcake with a single coloured dot. Each representing a particular flavour. During the week particular flavours are introduced so you’ll probably have to check their website if you cant find a flavour your after on the day.

Personally im a sucker for all things cute so i am bias when it comes to cupcake designs. Other than that totally loving the colour coded cupcakes as I think its a brilliant idea and the shiny black packaging it comes with.
From memory at this years Taste of Sydney event, the cupcakes used to be much bigger (gigantic). I think they’ve cut the sizes down which is great as it means you can eat more cupcakes ^_^

The Verdict
We ordered one of each flavour to individually examine its flavours and taste. As good as these looks, i’d hate to have to agree with the controversial dry stumps :( As for the flavouring, Im pretty big on flavour and was disappointed the flavours weren’t strong enough which left the stumps tasting plain, dry with sweet icing =(
However I did have some favourites as the flavours were much more prominent than other cupcake flavours.
Lavender and Honey in particular as dear friend (N) kept telling me how she was in love with the flavour and I can see why – Definitely my favourite and a big winner.
Oriental flower which tasted like rose petals (i’m a huge fan of rose flavoured macarons and butter creams) as the flavours were much more prominent than the other cupcake flavours.

PreshaFruit
Because it was such a hot day, we ordered juice. I’ve seen this juice on the shelves at woolies and always wanted to try them cos the packaging is cool. Let me say they taste pretty darn good at first but a couple of sips later felt like I was getting diabetes. I checked the sugar content at the back and from memory it was 36 per 350mL *ouch*.

they do look lovely. i’ve yet to try but i believe i’ve heard similar reviews about the dryness and flavour which is a shame. where do I have to go for the most consistently moist, flavoursome and overall best cupcakes in Sydney? :-)

Ughh it was just too many cupcakes at once. I still feel a little ill thinking about it. What is it with us and trying every flavour of everything? We’re crazy I tell you!

So much sugar! Such a shame that their cupcakes were a disappointment. I like the colour coding system, but I’d much prefer cute decorations and things on my cupcakes

The Sparkle cupcakes (and the shop) do look spectacular in your photos. Shame they don’t cut it in the taste department, though.

A great idea to have a tasting session to get an idea of the flavours from a range of items, rather than just one or two. Pity about the cupcakes though. I guess it’s not all about the icing afterall
Considering you were having cupcakes the whole time, I’m surprised you found the Preshafruit juice so sweet.

Gosh, I don’t think I needed to know about that juice sugar content.. but so good, so tasty!

It definitely looks like a fancy cupcake place! Shame about the cake – it does look a bit dry and crumbly in the photo too. I like the concept though, if only their cupcakes were a bit more flavoursome!

There’s nothing more disappointing than bland cupcakes – the cake has to be moist, or it’s just a fail! The juice certainly LOOKS good and it’s surprising that the sugar content is so high because, from the front of the bottles, it made me think it would be healthier (the whole “just picked” slogan). Did you get through all of it? Maybe it would be nicer watered down?
