Lotus Asian Restaurant, Marrickville

It’s been a long time since I last stepped into Marrickville and thanks to Simon, it was him who brought a bunch of foodies together for an asian feast. Marrickville has always been the “bankstown / cabramatta for us eastern suburbs peeps who do not wish to drive to the western suburbs of for a vietnamese fix. Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling well on the night after experiencing food poisoning and severe stomach problems so I couldn’t eat as much on the night :(

Judging from the delicious experience we had, it’s an Asian restaurant which crosses paths of Vietnamese, Malaysian, Thai and Chinese cuisine. From rice paper rolls to rendang curries and satay sticks, lotus is an Asian restaurant which offers a variety of cuisines which reach out to those who want bits and pieces from various Asian regions.

Char grilled lemon grass prawn skewers
Lemongrass is very fragrant which truly lived up to it’s name

Malaysian chicken satay skewers
In general I’m always worried about rich foods and for some reason chicken satay always seems to send chills down my spine as sometimes it can be uber rich and upset my belly. I’m no pro when it comes to telling what a good chicken satay is and what a bad one is. So as far as I was concerned, it was yum!

Salt and pepper squid
Crunchy batter but found it to be missing the “pepper and salt” combo that it usually should have. Presentation wise it was a beaut!

Salt & pepper soft shell crab with Nam Jin
My favourite dish of the night! Tower of salt and pepper crab was delicious and definitely won everyones souls!

Braised pork belly with green papaya salad
Pork belly always sends people to heaven. In this case, if you love crispy pork belly then this is a salad with a lot of crunch, sweetness and texture! MmMM

Roast duck & lychee salad
Would have loved to see a lot more duck but flavours were nice and was another salad with a sweet kick.

Malaysian rendang chicken
Unfortunately for my belly I couldn’t stomach much of it. I managed to have a taste of the chicken and it was extremely tender and the flavours were somewhat sweet and comforting.

Braised prawns with red curry paste, pumpkin and kaffir lime leaves
One of their signature dishes? which seemed to be featured in the paper. Pumpkin was soft and the flavours of tamarind were defined with the spicy kick perfect for the winter weather!

Malaysian style sambal prawns
I’ve always been a fan of sambal prawns. Some find it stinky and gross but I find it amazing whenever i’m eating malaysian food!!!

Mushroom, bean cured & snow peas
I love chinese vegetarian dishes!!! Tofu was cooked to perfection!

Fried coconut ice-cream with passionfruit sauce
Passionfruit sauce had a tang to it but once poured over the crunchy fried ice-cream, the coconut ice-cream instantly became empowered by sauce. Having said that, this would have to be my favourite dessert on the night only because I love fried-icecream and the crunchy coconutty batter was spot on! I also would have been happy to eat this without the passionfruit sauce.

Lotus platter for two
Lychee and Mango sorbet was mouthwatering
Black sticky rice pudding with coconut cream – perfect asian dessert! Phuoc hoed into it!
Chocolate truffle with raspberry sauce – delicious when combined

Hey Belinda I remember you love fried ice-cream. I still think the biggest fried-icecream is the one at Eastwood where we ate it a while ago. Hope you have an awesome week

  2. Omg that black sticky rice pudding was the bomb! If I didn’t have to share it with you all, I would of had two of the bowls to myself (and possibly demanded for more :p) That soft shell crab salad was good, so want more of that!

  4. Beautiful photos as always! We must have got all of the duck in our salad as there was loads. We all commented on how generous it was at our end of the table! ;)

I thought that the prawn curry was the best dish on the night. I loved the tamarind, spice and pumpkin. That would definitely be the dish to order again for me.

I have to agree with Phouc, the black stick rice was good too. Mmmmm

Shame you were feeling ill on the night and enjoy all of the food.

  5. Your photos make everything look that much better as I heard from a friend the food is average. I wouldn’t eat here though because of the slow service; I’m much too impatient for that! LOL

Apparently they only have one chef :( I think that’s why service is a bit delayed. The locals seem to enjoy it with their BYO bottles of wine. I can be impatient too depending on how hungry I am lol
