Charlie & Co. Burgers (westfield tasting event)

hamburgers wouldn’t be called
hamburgers without charlie

Plan B customers, Justin North has fulfilled your burger needs by creating a burger menu catered for those with various likes and tastes (including vegetarians). For those who have never been to Plan B, it’s a small hole in the wall which sold burgers and of course their awesome banana custard tart (see my previous write-up).

With the amount of exposure and attention his burgers were receiving, it was obvious to him that burgers were something which weren’t done propperly and a high potential for good high quality burgers was to be found.. which lead him to his latest establishment – Charlie & Co. Burgers.

Price tells all that this is no ordinary burger (Burgers are not your average price which cost $10-$18). To set the record straight these burgers are made with premium quality meat and as Justin explains over bubbles and Parmesan truffle chips, its not any kind of meat mashed into a patty.

In this case the most popular burgers are the Wagyu Burger which is my ultimate favourite (pickled gherkin, beetroot relish, aged cheddar on fresh brioche bread which is made daily). Other favourites are the Federation Burger (Angus beef, fried egg, sauteed onions, aged cheddar, bacon, iceberg lettuce and tomato on a sesame sourdough bun) which i’m still yet to try.

The wagyu & co. burger - pickled gherkin, beetroot relish, aged cheddar on fresh brioche bread which is made daily
This is his original burger, which most of you would have noticed when going to various sydney food events like Taste of Sydney / Winter Festival etc. This is one you must try if you’ve never had one of his original burgers before. During the westfield opening up to 600 burgers were sold! OMGGGGG!!!

Parmesan & truffle fries
The fragrance of the truffle makes me want to smear my face into it. Perfect combination to have a side with your burger. Fancy chips at it’s best! Chips were a huge sell out. Up to 120kilos of chips were fried, sold and eaten by consumers! That’s gotta say something about the chips!

Charlie who? How Charlie & Co. Burgers got it’s name..
wiki: Born in Wisconsin, at 15 Nagreen was a vendor at the 1885 Seymour Fair. After not experiencing success selling meatballs, he had an idea. Knowing that the visitors to the fair would be hungry after gazing at the exhibits but wouldn’t be able to walk and eat, he smashed a meatball and placed it between two slices of bread. The name of the Hamburger came from the idea of “Hamburg steak”, or ground beef. Since this was a popular item in Seymour at the time of the 1885 fair, Nagreen decided to call the sandwich the “Hamburger”.

Closest thing I’ve been to a Plan B wagyu burger is the mini one at the Taste festival. Will one day make the trek and try the original… until then I’ll just stare at the screen =)

Dont even bother going there! Just went there today for dinner. Thought I gave it a try because there was so much hype about this place. I was so disappointed!! Pictures can be pretty deceiving. What I had was nowhere close to those pictures shown above. Ordered the Malayan chicken burger and parmesan truffle fries, it costs me $23.50!! Chips were soggy and the burger buns were not so fresh! the chicken had no taste , the sauce was runny. It was a one messy burger to eat. Go there at your own risk!

Its a shame you had such a horrible experience. Maybe you caught them on a bad day?
Especially if they’re flipping hundreds of burgers a day.

I ate there last friday during lunch (knowing iw as going to pay $32 for roughly and my burger was perfect (i had the original wagyu burger – plan B style). I’ve never ordered any other burger apart from Plan B’s original Wagyu Beef burger (now charlie & co’s popular one), i wouldn’t know what the other burgers taste like and depending which burger you get, chances are you have a different style or cut of bread.

Shame the breads were stale?? We were told they make them fresh daily at the becasse bakery housed within the Westfield.

I guess if your after something cheap ish probably not best to eat in that food court. Its not meant to be a food court with burger patties made with cheap cuts of offal bits and as for the fries.. its got “truffle” in it so its meant to be fairly pricey =(. If you walk around the mall its got gucci and all other sorts of premium world class brands so its aimed at a different market i suppose?

its a shame you had such a bad experience =(
