A healthy breakfast option, Goodness Superfoods
This year i’ve chosen to eat better and focus more on my fitness levels. It doesn’t mean I cant eat anymore.. it just means i’ll have to make decisions on what I choose to eat e.g. grilled over fried and cutting down the deserts and sweets. Your probably thinking ‘why am I worrying about eating healthier etc etc.’ (scroll to end of the post for answers)
Being a food blogger I think its important to take care of your health. Being so passionate about food and the fact that its always teasing our watering mouths, it’s a given that we forget its..
Easier to eat..
Easier to forget and
Harder to loose the pounds
All this talk leads me to the perfect opportunity to review a cereal in particular that is under the license of the CSIRO and is LOW-GI and WHEAT FREE!!!!!
Every morning I have cereal and a piece of fruit and while i’m doing the grocery shopping on the weekends i’m constantly checking out new healthier breakfast options that will help me mix up the eating. I’ve heard how Goodness Superfoods Digestive cereal is meant to make you clean your stomach . When I say clean I don’t mean you’ll be sitting on the dunny-can for ages waiting for your ass to explode.. I mean it will make an easy transition of happiness and you know how much I love that brown awesome stuff in the mornings ^_^

It costs about $5.95 @ woolies from memory (Yes I know its fairly dear) but that’s the price you pay for a healthier product. Hence why salads are soo expensive ($10) and a fatty-boomba burgers are dirt cheap.
Digestive Cereal
If your a lover of sultana bran but afraid to eat it because of the sugar content and the fact that its not as healthier than the other cereal options, well I believe i’ve found the cereal that would happily match that without making you feel one bit guilty due to the differences between the heaviness of wheat vs barley. !!!
Its tasty, crunchy and I’m in love with the barley flakes!!!! It’s really light to eat (thanks to the barley). I’m not a huge fan of apple bits with cereal as it sometimes can over power the taste with its sweetness. My god these are actually really good that I didn’t realise I was eating apple as the flavours were subtle.

Protein Cereal
Some reason when I see the name “protein” i automatically think its a boy’s cereal. (B) instantly went for the protein based cereal as he’s currently on a protein diet for muscle building.
I don’t know how to explain this cereal..as its like comparing fluffy white tip-top bread vs super healthy 5 grain bread. When I first placed a spoon in my mouth, I instantly wanted to try this with yoghurt. Its super crunchy and the barley flakes are crispy and the taste is very simple which is the beauty of it! It doesn’t contain any fruits but purely barley, soy flakes and whole grain amaranth suitable for those who want low carb cereal packed with fiber and protein!

Chunkiest, Chunkier, Chunky, Chunk…
Since im going to be watching what I eat for the next 8 months, I thought I’d open up to why i’m fairly conscious about exercising and eating propperly. I just cannot go back to letting myself go as I’m not getting any younger and we all know the older you get the harder it is to loose the pounds..
January 2008:
I joined the gym after seeing myself balloon to a weight I was not happy about. As you all know relatives can be very “honest / direct” in terms of commenting on weight and how “FAT” you’ve grown over the years. I made up my own diet and stuck to it which meant, working out 5 days a week most of them being cardio work outs, less carbs, smaller portions, zero sugar and coffee. Eating out meant grilled options other than fried and I spoilt myself with desert once / twice a month but only if someone shared it with me. In total I went from 68kg down to 52kg (size 8 baby!) It was fucking hard work (sorry about the language but it really was)– I’d love to show you the comparison but it makes me feel gross!
February 2009
I started this food blog. In the back of my mind I keep saying how id hate to be chunky again. I was still exercising 3-4 times a week but wasn’t as focused I managed to maintain my weight gaining 2 kilos more (55kg). During the festive period (christmas and new year) I started to get squisher around the waist and I knew it was time to get back into being more active– I realised how much I missed being outdoors and enjoying the active sports
January 2010
Sister is getting married @ Fiji in August and I’m focused in working towards being in tip-top shape hoping to hit exactly 50kg. The relatives are flying from all over the world and no doubt everyone is going to be sun tanning, swimming or walking around in their bikinis and bordies all day and the last thing I wanna do is feel uncomfortable. Its a different ball game when family is around. Call myself paranoid of whatever, I just can’t go back to way things used to be its traumatised me and I do know I cant let all the hard work over the years go to waste…– Crunch time..

You go Girl! I had my first appointment with the dietitian this morning to get my weight under control too! This foodblogging lark really gave me an excuse to eat a little too well!

Good luck, Leona! Great that you’re making the effort, I hope to follow your lead (eventually!).

Best of luck and it’s great to see you eating more healthy options. The most important thing is not how much you eat, but how much energy you expend thereafter. You can eat like a horse if you exercise like a horse, if you know what I mean! ;-)

I saw this cereal in the supermarket and it was all sold out. Must be really good!
your only 55kg? Thats small already I think 50kg would make you too skinny?. Id love for my weight to be in the 50s but after giving birth to my second child has put me off the radar and I just dont have the time or energy.
Look forward to the progression.

Good luck with your mission!
A good breakfast is probably the best way to feel better about the day. Even if the day winds up with a little dessert on the side.

regular exercise combined with weight training, smaller more frequent meals and cutting down on sugary sweets is definitely the way to go, this will be easy for you because you’ve done it before and also seen results :O)

Leona… you and Betty are only the few people who can understand my addiction for exercise. I have these two cereals at home and will definitely be giving them a go after reading this post! Oh and massive LOL for the dunny can statement!!!

Hi Leona, thank you for such a lovely review about our cereals, and taking the time and effort to beautifully showcase them in their full yumminess! Hope you are still enjoying the cereals and they’re helping you achieve your health and fitness goals. We’re currently setting up a product review section for our website and we’d love it if you would be able to help us out by contributing your review. If you like, you could also write a new one, if your thoughts about the products have changed since you wrote this entry last year.
Cheers,
Kara
