Its sunday, the day I spoil myself with a mini tea time treat, I  was in no mood to travel far so decided to pop into the local patisserie in search of something petite, tasty and something which wouldnt make me feel guilty. They’re super mini (height of a 50¢ piece) and fairly expensive. All up this cost me $14.

Taste

Imagine eating a Financier / Friand (light tea cake, that contains almond flour, crushed or ground almonds) made in a mini gulp size portion.  They were all extremely beautiful each one having its own distinct taste.

The Tea Room, Gunners Barracks

Gunners Barracks? Where the hell is that??? After being some what scared of driving over the god damn bridge, I had no choice but to concur my fear and drive over the stoopid thing!! I can proudly say I didn't miss an exit LOL but I admit I was shitting bricks thinking I did. Gunners Barracks had been on our high tea list for a very very long time and it seemed to be one of the places hardly anyone had visited. After this date being in the diary for approximately 3 months.. the day everyone seemed to be free turned out to be a cloudy, cold, partially rainy / sunny...

Hurstville Chinese Restaurant – Lunch

‘when a restaurant is packed with chinese customers, you know its gonna be good’ My family has a cantonese background and we’ve been coming here for years thanks to their cantonese cuisine. Bills, Darlinghurst

I find it extremely hard to wake up on a Sunday morning. Unfortunately its the only day of the week I get to catch-up on sleep before another week of work *rolls eyes*. Some of us had shockingly never been to bills before so this was an important reason to wake up for some of Bill's McLovin' brunch followed by shopping with the girls and hoeing into boon...

Plan B – Banana Custard Tart

Posted 16.10.09 // Author Leona //

Plan B’s Banana Custard Tart will take you to the climax you are after!
If you’ve eaten Bécasse’s banana crème brulée dessert (see bécasse entry) and moaned over this then you will know what i’m on about. This is by far the nicest banana tart you’ll ever find. I knew I was in instant love when the first spoon went in my mouth. This is some serious deadly good lovin’ moan worthy stuff that is bound to blow any girl off her chair.

THE TASTE

Banana Custard Tart
Delicious short crust buttery base with sweet crumbly peanut brittle and salty peanuts sprinkled on the creamy banana custard. Under neath the custard is a thin layer of caramalised rum infused banana which is a surprise I didn’t expect. For the record, the custard isn’t like any normal custard in a regular tart, its actually like eating a creme brulee.

Rum Infused Banana
Thought I’d show you a photo of the rum infused banana which is embedded on the bottom of the tart. I wanted you all to experience what I experienced when I first picked this with my fork. Its like finding gold in a mine.

While N and I bought the remaining tarts, this cheesecake was calling me to buy it and try it especially since the presentation of it was one that I could not resist.

Vanilla Bean Cheesecake
Very light cheesecake that doesn’t make you feel guilty. Its soo light its almost like eating a creamy mousse only a tad heavier with a subtle yogurt taste. Vanilla bean extracts are embedded through the cheesecake and the biscuit base is light and crunchy. The blueberries are fresh (as you can see from the image), and delicious golden cubes are pears which seem to be soaked / marinated in a sugar syrup of some sort. – Perfect way to enjoy afternoon tea.

There’s no point going to Plan B if your not going to have their signature burgers. This seems to be a popular one with the boys.

Wagyu Beef  Burger
Huge burger which makes it a blokey burger! No way I could stomach a whole one of these so N and I went half. The wagyu beef isn’t dense its a really soft, moist patty that crumbles and melts when you eat it. The patty is one of a kind and its not one to be dry. It comes with melted cheese, rocket and beetroot. First thing I noticed about the beetroot is that It didn’t taste like it was from a can as you could taste the earthiness of it. – Fantastic!!!

Lamb Sausage Rolls
N heard great things about the sausage rolls so we went half. My god the sausage rolls are good! The pastry was buttery and flakey. The sasuage roll came with a tomato chutney with caramelised onions.

The lamb is soft, almost like lamb that was slowly cooked. Its not minced, and you can tell that its actually good quality meat. Its fairly expensive for a sausage roll ($7) but judging from the filling it pretty much explains why.
