Pastizzi Cafe, Newtown
Ever had one of those days where you just feel like eating pastry???? Decided to solve this craving by making tracks to Newtown’s Pastizzi Cafe. Pastizzi Cafe is not your typical flash modern cafe. In fact I love the simplicity and the feel of this cafe which fits right into the funky Newtown. I love not having to be pampered by fancy surroundings and it makes you appreciate the casual and social dining experience.
What is Pastizzi?
It’s golden, crunchy puff pastry with various fillings such as the famous spinach and ricotta.

There are many flavours to choose from such as: cheese, chocolate and ricotta, curry vegetable or curry beef, peas, mushroom and egg, bacon and egg, spinach and ricotta, apple, and my favourite chilli-corn carne!

Pastizzi cafe doesn’t just have Pastizzi’s, they also have many pasta dishes to choose from at a very reasonable price. As I walked in I noticed customers seem to be eating huge bowls of pasta which immediately make me want a bowl of pasta to myself!
Penne Arrabiata
Aldente pasta, bacon not too overpowering which is great, very tasty dish

Prawn Spaghetti
Pasta was cooked to perfection. Prawns were generous especially considering its reasonable price. Sauce was perfect which didn’t need any seasoning or readjustments.

No point eating here if your not gonna have a pastizzi! Curry and Peat Pastizzi is one of the ones you just have to try. Its like having a curry pie

Takeaway
Knowing me, when I review a place, I have to try everything! I ended up ordering one of each flavour to share amongst the family. My favourite is the Chilli Con Carne because its sets my mouth on fire, I also love the pea, curry, and the spinach and ricotta. Mushroom was interesting, If your a huge mushroom fan you’d love this as the mushroom flavours are extremely strong .
Unfortunately not a fan of the Chocolate and ricotta maybe i’m being bias because its meant to be a savoury nibble. I had expectations of this almost being a chocolate crossiant (flakey butter pastry with dark chocolate) but unfortunately it was no where near that.

Chilli lovers this one is for you!!! I had to express the love of the chilli colour. When i see how red something is, I know its gonna be a good one!!!!!!!!!!

I love this place! You’re right the pasta portions are HUGE, especially the ravioli (when you normally get 5 or so pieces in posh restaurants).
The owners are so nice and of course the pastizzi to take home and cook fresh when you’ve got the munchies is fantastic. Great to have in the freezer for when unexpected guests drop by (all the time!).
You’ve made me home-sick!

Yes, I did have one of those days where I all I feel like eating is pastry! It’s scary. Recently actually where I’d ended up spending way over my limit on sweet and savory varieties.
Just thinking about the amount of butter consumed…
