El Bulli
I first came to El Bulli in 2006 and since then i’ve been a customer ever since. There are a couple of mixed feelings about this place (so i have read) but every time i have gone here it’s always been fantastic. Keep in mind if you wish to dine here you need to reserve a seat as it gets very busy on fridays and saturdays.
AMBIANCE
It’s a small terrace hidden away in Surry Hills. Keep in mind the place is fairly small and often not the best seating arrangements. Can get quite noisy as groups tend to come here and occasions are usually held towards the back of the restaurant.

SERVICE
Always superb! very efficient, quick, helpful, polite and always on the ball. I have not had one issue with them yet.
FOOD
If your here for a romantic dinner for two or for a function (i had my birthday here last year) I recommend the tapas. It’s simply divine without the guilt.
Seafood Paella (Keep in mind takes about 1hour)

prawns panfried in a tomato based garlic, chilli & olive oil sauce

Patatas Fritas:chat potatoes deep fried served with allioli dressing

marinated barbecued lamb fillets
traditional spanish meatralls seasoned with paprika, served in tomato salsa

authentic spiced beef, olives & egg wrapped in puffed pastry

skewered chicken marinated in chimichurri topped with fresh lemon

garlic chicken wings

crispy baby potatoes fried in a tomato chilli sauce

crispy panfried chorizo & spanish onin in a cider glaze

Desert: Can’t remember what the name of this is called. It’s a spanish caramel kisses.

It sure did taste like caramel. It tasted very home made… not too sweet but perfect that you could taste the condense milk ^_^
thanks for pointing it out. I didn’t think anyone would click for older entries.. especially that this blog is fairly new. ^_^ I’ve fixed the codes so hopefully next time the recent entry wont be at the top of the page again
Hope you don’t mind that I linked you.

For a second I thought it was El Bulli in Spain!
Were the servings generous ? I’ve been to a few ‘tapas’ places and the portions didn’t justify the price.

The portions seem to be like any other tapas place i’ve tried (can be fairly small). The food is served in the usual clay pots. Tapas ranges from $8-12.
In some aspect it allows you to try other tapas as they have as have a variety of hot and cold tapas. If your dining for 2 ppl ordering 4-5 tapas is a lot which will make you full.

I think that it is hilarious that this restaurant calls itself ‘El Bulli’! I tried to go here once before but they have some silly rules about large groups, so we chose elsewhere, but I have heard that this is one of the best Tapas places in Sydney, frequented by many a homesick spaniard.
Looks great!

I’m very familiar with Spanish because from an early age I’ve been spending part of my summers in Spain with my family who lives near Madrid, and if you think those Pinchitos De Pollo were good you have to try the ones that my mother makes and the Paella that my Aunt makes is to died for. Everytime I’ve return home from spending time with my cousins and uncles in Spain I always weighted a few more pounds.
My aunt cooks so well and she is good at everything from Spanish cusine to the very typical Portuguese “Pasteis de Belem” (a portuguese kind of cake).

Apparently El Builli is a restaurant where a lot of Spaniards go to when they’re missing home food. I doubt it will ever match up to your families cooking. Its something that makes spaniards feel like they’re at home.
Your mums cooking sounds divine! You’ll have to do an entry of your mums food. I’d loveeee to seee what a real spanish culture / home cooked spanish meal looks like.

What is the Port doing at a Spanish Restaurant? Port is a kind of wine that is traditional of Portugal (there are other places in the world where its made and is becoming more international than Portuguese but its origin is Portugal). Its called Port because it was made in a Portuguese City called Oporto, the grapes that my grandfather has on its vineyards goes to make Port to a brand called “Casa do Douro”.

I’m not too sure.. they handed us these glasses after our meals… I assumed it was some sort of port. My uncle is Portuguese and he’d pour us glasses which looked similar filled with port.

WEnt to a place called Subsolo instead of El Bulli, what a shame, my friends said El bulli was a lot,lot better and a lot cheaper, they charged us a 10% service fee for average service
