Sushi Train, Bondi Junction

Finished work late and cant think of anything quick to eat for dinner???
Head down to Sushi Train, Bondi Junction. Its been a local favourite for many years since I was a kid and in fact.. could well be the first sushi train in the Junction.

I’ve always loved this joint as a quick local eat. May not be as flash and unique as Makoto in terms of seafood variety but its great place when your on the run. I was surprised when I got there at 7:30pm on a Wednesday night.. we had to wait in line as I thought it would be empty during weekdays (i tend to go here on weekends). Turns out a lot of people dine here after work hours.

Due to their high turn around rate and long queues, what i love most is eating sushi freshly made especially the hot grilled sushi dishes (scallops, salmon and beef). Unlike some sushi joints, where they pre-make their sushi ahead of schedule so it sits on the side of the counter waiting for it to be loaded on the train… This joint is all fresh! Once a batch is made it goes straight on the train! – AMEN TO FRESHNESS!!

“Its great and the volume queues speak for itself. Those waiting outside aren’t crazy, they simply know how good it is!” - Eatability

AMBIANCE
Staff are Japanese as you can hear them speak to each other as theyre making sushi or the girls working on the floor. Loud not your average quite sushi train but i love it! Constant words are spoken when leaving and entering the table with enthusiasm like your at a party of some sort. Very enjoyable.

FOOD
I’m sure everyone has been to a sushi train at some point in their life.. Only going to show a couple of dishes.. no point showing the other raw tuna, king fish etc as we all know what they look like. Didnt get to eat my usuals like soft-crab shell sushi etc on the night i was soo hungry that i ate too quick and got full easily LOL.

Such Pigs we are!

Grilled Scallop

Grilled Salmon
Another one of the local favourites which seems to always be flying off the Sushi Train. If you see it.. grab it! or else you’ll miss out hehe

Prawn with special sauce
I’m not sure of the name of this one but it seems to be a popular / favourite dish as its one of the cheapest dishes. I love the sauce on it its quite addictive.. These were freshly made and hot which made it even better!

Crunchy Roll
I’ve tried many crunchy rolls @ various places and this joint still is my favourite as the crunchy bits are always crunchyyyy. A couple of sushi joints I’ve tried have their crunchy bits stale!!!

  1. always wonder if this place was any good. always thought the queues were because it was cheap but sounds like it’s also fresh and good as well. scallops look like a must.

I’m pretty sure you could find it in an asian supermarket. Probably near the soy sauce area. If not im they sometimes have a designated japanese section you might have to check there ^_^
