High Tea @ Swissôtel, Crossroads Bar
In preparation for mothers day, thought i’d celebrate the occasion a week early as i’ll be at Surfers Paradise that weekend. Did the usual mothers day thing like driving her around to various shopping malls and spending mother and daughter time ending the day with a girly high-tea at Crossroads Bar @ Swissôtel.
Swissôtel had a variety of desserts in comparison to Sheraton on the Park which happened to be double the price ($60pp) plus their food selection was crappier and all the cakes tasted foul. Surprised by the selection today.. I really enjoyed most of the desserts! In fact, there wasn’t any that I disliked..if i was fat and had a massive stomach.. I probably would have eaten all the desserts rather than take a spoon of each dessert and left it to waste :( *BAD ME*
For the bargain price of $35 per person. I thought it was reasonable and to an extent much more value in regards to the other ‘propper’ high tea venues like Victoria Room and QVB Tea Room.

AMBIANCE
Cosy experience, my first reaction felt strange as it looked as though food was being served in the hotel lobby. Our booking wasn’t in the center where everything was happening. It was in the private dining areas which I quite liked. Had our own booth / space with the window view of Center Point being under construction haha.. It was comfortable our table was normal height in comparison to “coffee table height” dining tables.

SERVICE
Great. They left us to do our own thing. Our plates were taken away on a regular basis which was great. Constantly asked us if everything was going ok. No dramas here.

FOOD
Food consisted of many desserts and of course savouries for all you savoury lovers. For people with sweet teeth like myself it was dessert heaven! So many to try and so many to choose from.
The Buffet

FOOD
I started off with savories but lets skip straight to the sweets part (my favourite). My mum commented on me saying taking a spoon of each dessert and leaving the rest to waste. LOL Its a shame that my stomach has shrunk.. If i could I would have eaten it all LOL. I felt full after my first plate of 2 finger sangas, 1 tiny pie and 1 quiche LOL! But i forced myself on the path to diabetes.
I MISSED OUT ON THE PANNA COTTAS!!! :(
Chocolate Fountain of Fondue
Selection included, pineapple, cakes, brownies, marshmallows and melons

The cake Selections

Carrot Cake
Mmmm this was one of my favourites! It wasn’t dense, it was very light and not oily! (some carrot cakes can be fairly oily). The top was delicious! Like sour cream ^_^ reminded me of the topping of simone logue cakes!

Fruit Flan
I hate fruit flans but this fruit flan was beautiful! usually I don’t really eat them but for some reason the coconut really made it taste much nicer and the custard was delicious! Loved it soo much I had 2 of these!

Strawberry & Creme Meringue
Imagine a non-sweet pavlova with fresh cream, fresh strawberries and a fresh meringue base!

Lemon Meringue
I’m a huge fan of lemon meringues! I love it when its super sour too ^_^ Lemon filling was divine the biscuit base was delicious! I could have eaten another one if i had the stomach too.

Crème Brûlée
I thoroughly enjoyed the crèmé brûlée. It was freshly and hot which made it enjoyable as it always is! It was served in tiny mugs which was different.

Chocolate Mousse
Tasted like it was created with lindt chocolate. Wasn’t fluffy mouse but more like the filling of a chocolate eclaire from La Renaissance

Banana Mousse?
Not sure what this cake was called but it was a banana mousse with thinly sliced banana on the top ending with a thin crunch biscuit base.

Almond & Pistachio Tart
Fairly sweet! but packed with Almond flakes with caramelized honey

Passion fruit Cheesecake
Very light cheesecake! The passion fruit was a bit sour but i really enjoyed it! It didn’t make me feel gluggy nor was it dense.

Caramel Slice
I’ve never had a caramel slice that was soo gooey oozing with freshness!

Almond Cake?
Plain but nice at the same time.. Cake felt dense almost similar consistency of a friand

Chocolate Cake
I was never a fan of chocolate mud cake as I always thought it was a very dense cake. surprisingly this one was quite nice!

Chocolate Cupcake
I didn’t really want to try the cupcakes.. but i figured 1 bite wont hut. Chocolate frosting was nice as it was almost on the dark chocolate side (my favourite). Stump wasn’t soft but it wasn’t hard either.

Scones Cream & Jam
I didn’t try any scones, my mum said it wasn’t hot and it was dry! Boo!

Savouries
Finger Sandwiches
Many filling to choose from.. from egg, chicken and mayo, mushroom, dried tomatoes and feta, ham and cheese, turkey cranberry and lots more.

Pies
Beef & Potato pies! Mmm!

Quiches
Vegetarian selection and bacon ^_^

Well I’m glad I don’t work for THAT Sheraton…The desserts look very good and I’m sure they were. We are now serving our Creme Brulee (my personal favorite) in edible chocolate cups..tricky to make but oh so good.
